Recently (and by recently I mean in June and July because it took me that long to get this blog post up) I gave myself a fun summer reading challenge… read a whole bunch of books about mermaids all in a row. Really, it came about when I realized that I had accumulated a number… Continue reading LiteraryJo Reads About Mermaids

This week—and, let’s be honest, basically the entire month of February—is getting the best of me... so here’s a #throwbackthursday photo of some reading time in a hammock by the lake. I’m so ready to be back here and for it to be good and warm again. Just imagining it helps me to breathe a little easier. • Where would you rather be reading right now?
Left the house on this cold and dreary day so I wouldn’t end up in the couch in front of the fire... lots to get done when all I really want to do is curl up with my book and read! 🤷‍♀️ • Last night I started LOST AND WANTED by Nell Freudenberger, a new release coming out in April from @aaknopf (thanks for the gifted copy! #partner). I didn’t know a whole lot about the book, other than the synopsis on the back, and I’ve never read anything else by the author, but I was intrigued by the premise so I decided to pick it up and it immediately sucked me in. The writing is excellent and I don’t want to put it down! Is this one on your radar? I’ll put the synopsis in my stories so you can check it out! • What are you up to this Sunday?
Cozy Saturday vibes were exactly what I needed after a stressful week! How are you spending your Saturday? 💕 • I actually finished up FIVE FEET APART last night— I flew through it in about two sittings. Granted it’s not super long and it’s YA so it’s an easy read, but it definitely caught my attention and kept me hooked. I’m glad I picked this one up so I could join in on the #readwithkat buddy read this month! I’ve learned so much about cystic fibrosis over the last couple years through my friendship with @readwithkat, but was still fascinated by this particular portrayal of life with CF. I learned a lot that I didn’t know and still got all the feels that you’d expect from a YA romance. Sure, there were some plot points that were a little questionable, but it’s cute and heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time... while also helping to raise awareness for a disease that doesn’t yet have a cure. • If you’re reading this one or plan to see the movie next month, I’d encourage you to check out Katharine’s highlights on her page where she discusses a lot of FAQs about CF or also visit the @cf_foundation’s website!
Happy Valentine’s Day to all my bookish pals from me and these two sweethearts. 💕
I’ve been staring at this photo for two days trying to come up with something good to say in the caption to go along with it. But I don’t have any exciting reading updates and although I got a lot done over the weekend, I’m still struggling to find and keep my motivation. So I’m following @bookish_nel’s example and keeping it #bookstareal. Honesty is the best policy, right? • On the bright side, it’s a sunny day and my mom’s birthday and I’m finally not feeling sick! ☀️Tell me something good about your week?
Late post on a Friday as we’re all camped out in the guest bedroom because it’s the only room in the house with any sunlight. ☀️ • I always struggle this time of year with the lack of sunlight. It gets to me in a variety of ways—not the least of which is a decline in my productivity. I just don’t feel like doing much when it’s dark so much of the time. But I’ve currently got a to-do list a projects I really want to tackle that’s about a mile long, so I’m really going to make an effort this weekend to make some progress on them! Hopefully that’ll mean getting more content for you as well... I know that’s been slow around here lately and I’m hoping I can turn that around! • How do you motivate yourself when you’re struggling with feeling productive? I’m looking for all the tips and tricks you want to send me!
