Today’s the day! For those of you who have spent much time on bookstagram or in the book blogging world, you probably know exactly what I’m talking about — today is the day for the release of R.S. Grey’s latest romantic comedy! I am so happy to be a part of the team that is welcoming this book into the world today–I received an advanced copy in exchange for a release day review, and let me tell you, those of us who are hooked on her books like to get our hands on them as soon as we can!

I think Not So Nice Guy might just be one of my favorites yet. Now, I haven’t read all of them, so I’ve still got a ways to go, and it’s hard to beat The Foxe and The Hound (because dogs), but still. I loved this one. It is an absolutely adorable best friends to lovers story, and I was swooning over Sam and Ian’s relationship even before they were anything other than friends!

I get asked this question a lot.

“Oh him?” I reply. “That’s just Ian.”

Just Ian is the biggest understatement of the century. Just the Mona Lisa. Just the Taj Mahal. Just Ian, with his boring ol’ washboard abs and dime-a-dozen dimpled smile.

Just Ian is…just my best friend.

We’re extremely close, stuck so deep inside a Jim-and-Pam-style friendzone everyone at work assumes we’re a couple—that is until one day, word spreads through the teacher’s lounge that he’s single. Fair game. Suddenly, it’s open season on Ian.

He should be reveling in all the newfound attention, but to our mutual surprise, the only attention he seems to want is mine. 

He’s turning our formerly innocent nightly chats into X-rated phone calls. Our playful banter sports a new, dangerous edge. 

I want to assume he’s playing a prank on me, just pushing my buttons like always—but when Ian lifts me onto the desk in my classroom and slides his hands up my skirt, he doesn’t leave a lot of room for confusion. 

I’m a little scared of things going south, of losing my best friend because I can’t keep my hands to myself. So, I’m just going to back away and not return this earth-shattering kiss—oh who am I kidding?!

Goodbye Ian, ol’ buddy, ol’ pal!

Sam and Ian are both teachers and have worked in the same school together for the past the years. They instantly became best friends during new teacher orientation, and have been inseparable ever since. Grey does such a great job crafting this friendship for us to see. It feels real. In fact, it feels almost as though they’ve always been friends. They just make so much sense. Their habits and their quirks… their inside jokes, everything fits together so nicely and they just click. Grey has done an excellent job building us two characters who just fit together perfectly.

And it just feels natural when things start to shift from friends to more than friends. Of course, their are challenges and road blocks. Most of them pretty funny. Because this book is funny. If you’ve read an R.S. Grey book before, you probably know she’ll have you cackling out loud (best to either read these books when you’re by yourself or just prepare yourself for the weird looks you’re going to get). This one is no different. The witty banter is on point and the silliness even in some of the sexier situations always had me laughing.

I’ve given this book 5 stars because it’s the perfect little romantic comedy. I think it did exactly what it was meant to do. It made me happy. It’s sweet. It’s sexy. It’s funny. It’s not a perfect love story, or a perfect work of literature, but it’s adorable and R.S. Grey truly is the rom com queen! If you’re a fan of the new adult genre, I encourage you to check out her work!
